A Guide To The Annual World Travel Market Exhibition In The UK

One of my favorite travel exhibitions every year takes place in the city of London, England and it is an event attended by exhibitors and visitors worldwide. Below we look in more detail at what you can expect from the annual World Travel Market.

The World Travel Market exhibition used to take place at Earls Court exhibition centre but in recent years with the introduction of the ExCel Centre in the London Docklands, the show has taken place in this new exhibition venue.

The event normally always takes place in November and attracts a somewhat International list of exhibitors and visitors, with both British companies who deal with domestic and International business; and International businesses looking to build business in Britain or to attract the British market. In recent years the list of exhibitors has included a number of high profile travel companies, event management companies, air travel and accommodation related companies. A number of tourism boards, wholesalers and tourist attractions also are represented. Last year the exhibition involved just under fifty thousand participants from 197 countries, with 52% of participants from outside of the UK.

In conjunction with the 3 day Travel Show, the organisers have began to run a ‘Responsible Tourism’ day and this day normally involves talks, debate and discussion on matters affecting the future of tourism and areas such as sustainability and environmental matters.

The exhibition is normally open to both trade and the public and with early registration entry is usually free and you receive a map of the layout of the exhibitors on entrance. The show is divided into region geographically and also by sector i.e. by airlines, hotels, wellness, online travel and meetings and always includes a number of discussions, presentations and workshops.

The ExCel Centre is relatively easy to access and there are some good hotels located within walking distance of the venue. You can get to the centre via the Docklands Railway, changing onto the DLR from the London Underground at a stop such as Canning Town. By road you can drive in via the M25 and M11 and there are a few thousand parking spaces at the venue which makes life a lot easier. If you are flying in then London City Airport is literally only five to ten minutes from the venue and is thus an excellent airport to fly into for convenience sake. London City Airport serves over thirty five locations in Europe so you may be able to get a flight which suits your schedule.
